A Little Bit About Me...

As a parent of four, educator,education advocate and mentor, I have spent most of my adult life working with young people in various learning enviroments. I have a love for and commitment to educational preparedness for students of every learning level. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree, the Master of Social Sciences degree, a Master of Arts degree, and will receive the Ph.D degree in Educational Innovation and Human Development in May 2010.
My teaching style is highly interactive and engaged. The relationship between student and teacher is based on mutual respect for our respective capabilities. An important first step in teaching, and particularly in introducing new material, is to construct a frame of reference familiar to the student, and then begin to expand that frame to enhance conceptualization and mastery of new skills and knowledge.

An effective teacher works with this while exercising patience, care and consideration for students as they guide them to subject mastery. My preferred method of teaching is show and do. I show the technique or concept, and then give the student a chance to practice and demonstrate that they understand. The student learns best when they can find or develop the answer themselves. As an college graduate, I was passionate about helping others achieve and improving the world. I earned my BA in Interior Design with a minor in Architectural Drafting. Later, I enrolled in a MBA program but due to the economy, I lost my job which had an substantial effect on my educational quest.
