A Little Bit About Me...

I have always loved working with children, in any capacity. Tutoring has not only combined my skills as a teacher but allowed me to work one on one with students in a way that is not possible in a classroom setting. I have had great success tutoring students of all backgrounds and academic levels because I strive to know them as individuals and find what works best for them. It is my belief that strong self-esteem is key to academic performance. I hold a provisional Teaching Certification from the State of Michigan; I have begun the process of transferring it to the State of Florida. A Masters degree in Education is in my near future. Prior to moving to Florida I was a football and softball coach for close to 10 years while serving the school district as a long term substitute in several capacities including Elementary and Special Education assignments.

I have had many years in the feild of education, K - secondary. I have had the chance to teach many children with different disibilities during this time. After moving to Florida I began teaching private guitar and art lessons on Tyndall AFB and at my church. Having this experience has also taught me many things about how to deal with people and how different people learn differently. I've learned that the most effective way to teach (espcially art or music) is one on one or in small groups. A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught K-Post Secondary through out my teaching career. I have done a great deal of graphic design work with military contractors. However I am most happy teaching. I am trying to get back into that arena because I realize that I was meant to teach, and to help others. There is something that I like to call the WOW factor in teaching. This is when a student gets it! When the light bulb comes on, or when a student understands that THEY, on their own, did something that, up to that point was like hitting a brick wall. My college experience in the subjects of Economics, Government, Language, Math, Science, and Social Studies was rigorous. After finishing undergraduate courses, I worked for a program that sent college students out to public schools to be Teacher's Aids. We were expected to help any students who were falling behind in a subject. The experience was so rewarding that after graduation, I took a position working with troubled students convicted of sexual assault, teaching them math and science for six months. That time was more challenging since students had wide-ranging ages and special needs. I learned how to work with I.E.Ps. Later, I worked as a tutor/teacher at a middle school in L.A.
