I have been a counselor at an elementary school and helped in the classroom. Also, I have have been a babysitter for years and helped children with school work, piano, dancing, and much more.
My teaching style is to be supportive and of course helpful; but most importantly, a great listener. children will improve of they are be listened to, not always being taught to.

Give Real life experience a try

Hands on approaches mixed with worldly knowledge, and a very patient style.
Experience throughout school, work and personal experience dealing with the mentally challenged and dyslexia. my best friend had a son who was dyslexic and also he had ADD and I got him to trust me in babysitting and I taught him various things. I taught him how to read and write he could not accomplish that on his own. He was 11 at the time and I think with kids you have to be creative to teach them and I am very creative. I also have an aunt who is mentally handicapped, and I love spending time with her she is a very giving person. They teach me and it is always a joy to work with them and give something back.

I started teaching chess at an elementary school in 2002, and continued there until 2006. While there I gained an appreciation for the power and joy of working with youth. I graduated in 2007 with a BS in Mathematics Education, and I have been teaching in the classroom for the last two years. While in college I began tutoring mathematics, and I have now been tutoring for the last six years - I have enjoyed every moment of it!
I believe all students can learn mathematics. I see it to be my responsibility as a teacher to accommodate individual learning needs and to continue trying new approaches until the student has understood the material. I will adapt my teaching style to the needs of the student - they after all are the one being served, not the other way around!

I am a very versatile tutor who believes in adjusting my own teaching style to fit the particular learning style of my students. I am extremely patient, kind, and creative. My goal is to make learning relevant and relatable, because those qualities ensure that a subject is memorable and understandable. I believe that all students can succeed as long as they are shown how to use their inherent strengths and turn their supposed weaknesses to their best advantage.
For six years I have enjoyed a "love affair" with teaching. Beginning with two years as an elementary school tutor, I was able to gain experience in teaching all subjects, and specialized in reading for students with learning disabilities. Once I began graduate school I began tutoring undergraduate students in a variety of subjects within the colleges of humanities and social and behavioral science. I also worked as a ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have previously been a tutor for private individuals while I was making my way through college, and also as a professional duty while I was employed by the Salt Lake City Public Library, where I worked for six years. I have not been a tutor for a few years, although I currently volunteer with the International Rescue Committee in Salt Lake by assisting program workers teach english speaking and reading skills to new refugee immigrant women.
I love teaching, but to students about 12 and older. I am able to relate and connect well with them, and let them learn and take pride in their progress. Especially with younger kids, a high degree of focus on my part can be necessary to keep them on task, but I find that one can be firm with them and not need to be patronizing or forceful.

A Little Bit About Me...

I spent the last two years in Warsaw, Poland teaching English as a Foreign Language. My duties included planning and preparing daily lesson plans as well as semester course programs, traveling to different locations to teach school-aged children or adults in different environments, keeping records of material covered, preparing and administering exams at the end of each term, and completing reports about students at the end of the year. I have experience teaching children (ages 5 to about 15) and adults. The children I worked with ranged in ability from beginners (at most a few words of English) to upper-intermediate (teenagers with a fairly high level of understanding and communication). As to my education, I have a total of five years of college education, two at Highline and three at WSU. In that time I took a variety of classes, including creative writing, philosophy, psychology ... read more

A teacher should treat their students as consumers. As consumers those students need to have their needs and expectations met. Every student learns differently and expects the instructor to be the expert in the subject matter. Being that expert the instructor should have and show a passion for the subject that makes the students want to know more. Each student is a valuable member of the class and as such has valuable experience and opinions that can enrich the class. The instructor should provide ample opportunity for student questions and discussion. The educator’s role goes beyond delivering the curriculum. The instructor should make the learning relevant to real life experiences. The instructor should provide differentiated instruction, timely feedback, and should aid in the students’ development academically and professionally. Students should be aspired to be quality teachers a ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I absolutely 100% believe that ALL children can learn! I believe that it is the teacher's responsibility to provide a healthy learning environment, one in which the student feels safe, secure, accepted and valued. I believe in self-fulfilling prophecies. If a child is encouraged to learn and knows that they can - they will. I feel very privileged to have had an opportunity to have created these types of situations for the students I have come in contact with.
During my education experience at Northern Arizona University, I learned early on that I have a passion for education and for teaching. I earned my Bachelor of Science degree and graduated Summa Cum Laude at the top of my class. Through observing and student teaching experiences I learned techniques for teaching students science, English, math, reading, art and music. I also gained valuable grammatical skills through wr ... read more

I was in the top 10% of my class at an elite college preparatory school and earned a BA in Economics from the University of Chicago. This has exposed me to great teachers and a variety of different teaching styles. I studied cello and piano formally for 7 and 10 years, respectively, and taught cello for 2 years. In high school I taught Adult English-as-a-Second Language classes for 2 years. I've also taught skiing and guided young children in after school art and literature programs for several years. My diverse education and experiences have led to my deep understanding of art, literature, history, math, science, and business. I have written numerous essays on art and literature, research papers, lab reports, and analytical reports.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe above all that patience is key in teaching people of all ages. If the teacher's listening and communication skills are focused on the individual(s) being taught, the learner will let the teacher know when they are grasping and/or absorbing new material as well as when they(the student) reach their capacity. I believe that in learning it's important to pace one's self, allow the mind time to digest new material, and in finding areas of learning that spark passion. Although I think periodic breaks are important, I also believe in advancing somewhat quickly(according to the students' abilities) and in using real-time examples and experience to facilitate and solidify learning. I do my best to teach kindly, effectively, and maturely.
As a student at UofU and BYU I tutored and was tutored myself. While attending BYU I worked in the student advisement center part-time, ment ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

With a Master's degree in counseling, I have had various experience working with youth on a clinical level. Before going into counseling I was on track to become a high school math teacher. I have taken courses up through Calculus III and Number Theory. I feel very capable in this area. I also am an avid and good creative and technical writer. I have tutored students from elementary to college level in mathematics, English, writing, basic sciences, and other various humanities subjects.
I've never met a "stupid" student. I see all people as capable, as long as they are willing. I find it easy to get a student interested in a subject when they have usually been bored in class. I easily create metaphors and practical examples for application of the subject at hand so the student can personalize their studies. Once a student sees how the subject "fits" in their life, their interest le ... read more

Learning is the most natural thing for humans to do. We all come into this world with the desire and capacity to learn. We learn through exploration, questioning and discovery. A teacher’s role is to guide students in a process of discovery about the world and about themselves. I emphasize mastery, not “covering the material”. Just going through the book does not make an education. Mastering new skills, relevant to making better decisions in life, makes an education.
I have taught undergraduate and graduate courses for over 20 years. I have a PhD in Business Administration with an emphasis in business statistics and operations management. I also have an MBA and an ME and BS in Mechanical Engineering. I have tutored students in all topics related to quantitative analysis and management.
