In May 2010, I will receive my Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art, with minor studies in Psychology and Arts Education. While studying, I had the opportunity to tutor children in the America Reads program at various elementary schools. I also had the privilege tutoring and assistant teaching in general education and art classrooms in the elementary setting. My extensive grammatical skills were gained from writing numerous research papers and education papers, as well as studying foreign languages. I enjoy earnest and humble students, learning with and from them. I feel uncomfortable not learning laterally as well as vertically, seeing that to be knowledgeable, one must not just memorize but ruminate on what was memorized, making as many lateral connections as expedient. For my bachelors of science degree, I studied Biomedical Sciences/Biochemical Pharmacology and graduated Summa Cum Laude. Teaching and working with children not only educates them but it educates myself in the process. I get to touch up on materials that the children are learning, as well as learn better ways to educate students. Patience is what I believe is the most important aspect of teaching. Children can become unfocused very easily. When children are distracted it may be very difficult to get them focused. Taking your time and making sure they refocus, can actually save time. If they are unfocused and miss a part of what is instructed, they will be confused throughout the whole process. It helps to be patient with the educating process.
