GED is one of my top subjects! I have taught all the subjects areas for GED in both the English and Spanish languages since 2000. I have helped more than 100 disadvantaged students achieve their GED certificates.

I try to engage my student, to tease the learning out of him or her. I have learned to explain, to give the information then to step back, allowing my student to think through to the conclusion. This involves silence sometimes, and the student talking more while I talk less, something not so easy for a teacher of Italian descent. Experiences has shown, however, that it often works.

The very first task is to assess the student's age and learning style. Once this is determined I select the teaching style to best accomodate the student's needs. Although I have used Expert and Formal formats, I prefer to incorporated Personal and Facilitator styles. Personal establishes a prototype for how to think and behave. It oversees, guides, and directs by showing how to do things. Facilitator guides and directs students by asking questions, exploring options, suggesting alternatives. I currently teach college composition and literature interpretation. I also tutor English composition at a community college. I homeschooled my own children, and I recently recieved my NYS certification to teach English Language Arts at the secondary level. I have a BA in psychology and classics and an MA in psychology.
