A Little Bit About Me...

I would say that it is a little more toward laid back. Being over 6" tall, stocky, pushing hard, being an ogre, hard-nosed, that isn't going to work for me. People have a tendency to be a bit intimidated and fearful because of my size. I will use it to my advantage if it is necessary, or becomes necessary, but I've found being a little more quiet, reserved and coaxing the student to initiate the discussion is a little better. Ask leading questions, adjust and proceed, based on their response.
I have received degrees in Int'l Business from Lourdes College, as well an Associates Degree in Accounting from Owens Community College. While with the Ohio Air National Guard, participated in the Mentoring program with Township Elementary, Swanton Local Schools for five(5)-years. I enjoyed working with the students, helping those that needed a little extra attention. I enjoy reading, writing, ... read more

I love teaching students of all ages and I recognize that most students do not get the help they need during the school day, which is why it is important for them to get the help they need outside of class. Each student learns differently and it is important for me to figure out a way that works best for him or her so that I can instill the techniques that will help them throughout their entire educational career. I find that many students get frustrated when they don’t understand and if I take the time to help them at their own pace in a teaching style that works best for them school becomes less stressful. I feel that once students feel confident in the classroom they can enjoy learning and that’s what I hope to give my students.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that the purpose of education, in any field, is to train the mind to think. With this goal, I approach tutoring with a desire to understand where each student is coming from and to help them figure out how to make their studies more interesting and applicable to life. Sometimes only personal attention is needed to truly reach a student, sometimes differant ways of practice, or ways of considereing the work need to be learned. In any situation, I am committed to helping each student to grow as a person and then as an academic.
As a graduate of Hillsdale College, I have been ingrained with a need for education to be applicable to the specific student and to widen his or her ability to observe, analyze, and draw conclusions. Majoring in English, I greatly appreciate the ability and discipline of language - vocablary, grammar, and syntax - to focus the mind and to aid communi ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I value education to the highest degree. I graduated in May earning a BA in Business Administration with dual concentrations in Sports Management and Marketing. Although I have only one official year of tutoring experience, I have made a habit of helping other students with course work since high school. I will be attending law school in the fall, and plan to earn by MBA as well. I have tutored students in logic (both introductory and symbolic), but have experience helping students with math (through calculus), French, Chemistry, and other classes.
I love helping people learn, especially kids. My mother is a teacher, and emphasized the importance of an education throughout my childhood. I have grown up with the benefits of a healthy learning environment, and I think every child deserves the same. I am friendly, patient, and relate well to children. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is participatory. I like to ask questions of the student and have them verbalize what they know. This gives me the opportunity to identify possible gaps in their knowledge and to fill in those gaps. I also try to relate covered material to historical events. For instance, when talking about the importance of analytical chemistry, I like to talk about the Marsh test which was developed in the 1830’s as a definitive reaction for arsenic poisoning. In like manner, I like to relate covered material to the personal experiences of the student. Illustrative examples that I have used are the importance of distillation to the alcoholic beverage and petroleum industries, along with how companies like McDonald’s would employ chemists skilled in flavors and fragrances (i.e., flavorists). All in all, I try to make science and mathematics fun and stimulating, as well as informati ... read more

I have grown up knowing that teaching is a fundamental need for our lives. Both my parents are teachers, and I have always been good at explaining things to others. As I pursued my career choices one of the most important goals for me has been to give others the opportunities at learning that I have enjoyed. I firmly believe that not all students can be taught the same way, and it is my job to help them discover not only what works for their learning needs, but to be creative in how I present material to bring the best out in each student. When a student discovers why learning is important is gives them a since of confidence in thier future that can't be taken away. I simply love to teach!

A Little Bit About Me...

As a Priest from Nigeria, I have been involved in education both in Africa and in the USA. I moved to the States, in 2001 and have vast experience in coaching and mentoring young people in their studies. In 2006, I became a Substitute Teacher with the Toledo Public Schools, [TPS], and since then I have been Tutoring young people yearly in two After -School - programs. While one of the programs involves students from private schools, the other is with those that attend Charter Schools. I teach all facets of English, Social Studies. I also mentor kids to ensure that that turn out to succeed in life.
Being a Priest has enabled me to work very well with all children, no matter how young. I use Flash cards , Crossword puzzle,Worksheets, etc to help teach kids. Most students enjoy this form of education, both as stress reduction measure yet teaching them the basics. I belie ... read more

I recently received my Bachelors degree in High School Ed with a focus on social studies and I am currently in the process of receiving a Bachelors in history at the end of this semester as well. I also am enrolled in the Graduate program at Lourdes to receive my endorsement to teach K-12 Reading. I also was a certified child care administrator for the YMCA for 6 months in 2006 but had to step down due to my student teaching responsibilities.
Very hands on with a strict demeanor initially that I relax as I gain my students mutual respect. I believe in differentiating instruction as every student learns and retains information in different ways and the best way, in my mind, to teach a student is by covering as many of the multiple intelligences as possible with a focus on that particular students specific strengths and learning style.
