I am what you might call a camp kid. I grew up spending summers in the mountains, camping and hiking and when I grew older, working. The foundation of my leadership experience was built in the forrest. For six summers I worked as an outdoor educator and adventure guide, leading groups of students through week long trips into the natural world. I believe in experience as the greatest teacher. Students are empowered when they learn from their experience and begin to flourish in themselves. At university, my enthusiasm for the outdoors lead me to the arts. Need Piano Lessons?

I am a 19 year old college student who is living in Murrieta for the next few summer months, and attends Cal State Fullerton. I have taken piano lessons for over 11 years now, and have a few years experience in teaching/tutoring in piano. My major concentration in college is Studio Art, and have also had experience in teaching art classes through M.A.D. Studio. Through experience in college and high school, I am also very familiar with Microsoft Office programs, and have helped those who are struggling in the newer editions of these MS programs.
My teaching style is not entirely concrete, for I feel that it depends on the maturity of the student and willingness to learn the subject at hand. I am very patient when I need to be, and my main goal is to simply make sure each student walks away knowing what they needed to learn.

A Little Bit About Me...

Straight out of college, I began substitute teaching and then tutoring individuals. I specialized in English, reading skills, history, psychology, and counseling. Now, I'm a computer tutor, a technical writer on contract, and gone through countless hours on training for these skills, and am now considering a second career as a teacher for non native speakers, for career and computer coursework, and always for writing skills, particularly technical writing. I wrote a book recently called Job Shark, to help people look for jobs, and I'm always amazed at how intimidated people are by computers and technology.

My teaching style would be classified as patient. I was diagnosed with a learning disability myself when I was in third grade, so I know how differently children learn. I was lucky enough to have patient resource teachers to work with and allow me to find my way of learning the material led by them, of course. So I think tutoring is extremely important for success of our children. As an instructor, I preferred to set up a weekly system, so the students would know what to expect and what was due every time they walked in the door. I would start class with a free write to focus the students; then move to a lecture to support their assignments; next, I would have them break into groups to discuss the lecture and work on in-class assignments to further develop the lecture; and finally, come together at the end of class to open their group discussion to the class as a whole, and get everyone back on the same page, leaving them with assignments and reading for the next session.
