Civil Engineering Tutoring Made Easy

Very hands on and simplified.
I am a Graduate Student at San Diego State University obtaining my Masters in Structural Engineering and Geotechnical Engineering while working full time as an engineer for a private firm. I graduated from San Diego State University in 2011 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering, after switching from Aerospace Engineering, and 2 minors in Physical World Geography and World History. I enjoy tutoring/teaching, and can give students a very real perspective of the current teaching methodologies and subject matter. I tutored right after I graduated, before I passed my E.I.T. certification.

Geography is one of my top subjects! Human geography from the #1 ranked program in the country for Ph.D.-level study. Expertise in Economic Geography, Regional and Spatial Analysis, Migration and Demography.

I am an ex-professor of Economics and Economic Geography, and taught at Texas A&M University-College Station, Illinois State University and Pepperdine University - International MBA Program. I am also the former Senior Economist for The TCW Group, Caterpillar, General Motors and Warner Bros. I specialize in Economics (international, development, trade, agricultural and natural resources).
I want students to see learning as fun, and an on-going process, not just a process of memorizing facts and figures.

My comments on tutoring Geography : One of my two minors was human geography. I completed courses in physical geography and oceanography as well.

Graduated with honors in 2010 from SDSU with a BA in Linguistics and an TESL certificate. I double-minored in History and Geography. Worked at American Language Institute (ALI) before and after graduation as a facilitator (assistant instructor). Graduated from Mesa Community College in 2007 with an associates degree in Social Science.
I take a systematic "nuts and bolts" approach that gives the student the basic building blocks so that they may become a partner in the integrative learning process that involves figuring out how to properly structure, connect & apply these integrations to form new building blocks, and so on to wider & wider integrations & applications.

If you don't like the results, I haven't done my job.

All I do is tend to my students needs. I'm personal. Like to get off track with my students and lead them back to the point.
I won the state championship in the 100 meters and went to Adams State College in Alamosa CO. Broke a leg in track and received withdrawn F across the board. Left college and healed up. Went to the Army two years and reserve three years. Came back and picked up the quickest degree possiable. Moved to Hawwaii, three years. Became a ciritified dept of defense government contractor. Furnish and deliver contracts. Ended up moving back home to Albuquerque NM. I started working in the Indian Casinos for 13 years. I bought a house and retired. But now I'm tired of sitting around.

I make learning interesting.

I believe in hands on learning. I found out the best way you learn and help you discover your strengths for learning.
As a lifetime learner, I like to share my love of learning with others. My specialty is helping those who have difficulty learning something. I love math but like to teach it so it can be applied to life situations. I believe technology can help us learn but can also overwhelm us. As a special education classroom teacher for two years, test scores for special education students also went up for two years.

I share life experience stories and lead by expample. I set clear expectations and provide the knowlege/training to achieve the goal.
I accepted tutoring assignments from another institution over 20 years ago. I recall bringing a young man from a "D" to a "B" in a very short period of time, and my most rewarding experience was with a young lady (today an accomplished attorney) who won a Coca-Cola essay scholarship I helped her with. I have been in a managerial role with my employers for over 20 years, and the role of a manager is to teach/mentor/tra ... read more

I am very student-centered. I believe that all students can learn any subject if the teaching style is adapted to the student's learning needs and prior experience. I further believe that learning should be fun for the student and to this end I constantly seek out interesting resources for students. I am patient and expect high achievement from students, but I also believe that high achievement only occurs when education is tailored to the student. I am currently a Master's student in Educational Psychology and I incorporate empirical research data into my method of teaching; I believe in doing what is proven to work to help students achieve!
I tutored English and Humanities in the Academic Skills Center of my alma mater, Heritage University. I was a Teacher's Assistant at this university for two semesters and often took over for the class in place of the professor. I tutored prima ... read more
