After graduating with a degree in history as well as with completion of pre-medical requirements I started tutoring students grades k-12 as well as college students in math, science, english and reading. After college I completed 2 years of FAA flight training and began teaching ground and flight instruction for all levels of pilot training (including aerobatics), which has allowed me to hone my teaching skills working with so many different age groups, personalities and cultural backgrounds. My style of teaching is to first get the student to understand the basics that are needed as a foundation. For example, my friend was having trouble completing accounting homework and I soon realized that it was because he had not memorized the basic equations; i.e., "assets - liabilities = owner's equity," and "beginning inventory + purchases - ending inventory = cost of goods sold." Just about impossible to advance without the basics.
At Hartnell College I tutured math and economics. Recently I tutored a co-worker who was taking a college Accounting class and he appreciated it and said that I was very helpful. Since finishing my degree and teaching credential progam I have been teaching full time for the last 12 years. I was a tenured teacher in Atascadero teaching all subjects 3-8 from 1998-2001. I am currently teaching in Paso Robles and have been since 2001. I have taught at Flamson Middle School and now teach at Liberty Continuation High School. A Little Bit About Me...

Communication has always been an interest of mine so I pursued a journalism degree and spent many hours in education to be an adept communicator through the written word. I also enjoy the person-to-person communication that is involved with the journalism profession. I have expanded my skills and knowledge through pursuing a creative arts career, as well. Before going to college, I formed the Oscoda County Youth Association with the goal of creating an organization that operated in the interests of the youth of the community. If necessary, I separate an idea into simpler terms, and help students learn each term before continuing. I give examples which illustrate a point or demonstrate a procedure. At times, my students write short essays, which I critique for sentence structure, word choice, tense matching, and organization. When a student is reading aloud, I follow along, interjecting if necessary with the correct pronunciation or the proper syllable emphasis.

Holding a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, I tutored in a math lab during the summer of my college years and later went into the Peace Corps in Zimbabwe to teach math and science to high school level students. I have also worked as a civil engineer and have directly applied my civil engineering degree in designing grading and utility plans for commercial developments.
