My comments on tutoring MCAT : Taking a standardized test requires a special set of skills in itself, so it is no surprise that many individuals (myself included) have spend countless hours dissecting and conquering them. Allow me to share with you some of the tips and tricks I learned as an MCAT tutor.

I have worked with a huge diversity of students and I find that students remember, relate, connect and understand metaphors, examples, and models best. So I tell my students stories about what they see in the world around them, relating lessons to the news, and showing examples that are so cool they cannot be forgotten! I love tutoring because my specialty is identifying the source of confusion a student might have in a given lesson and using my knowledge and experience to explain the science in a different way. This can include directing the students to a particular on-line resource and/or tool that can help them study outside of our tutoring time, which can save a dedicated student money in the long-run.

I really pride myself in personalizing my tutoring. I try to never have more than 6-7 students at a time so that I can provide the best possible personalization of teaching to each student. Additionally, being at a similar age to many of my students helps me relate to them a lot better than some older tutors may be able to; I have more recent experience with taking the same courses/tests as them or applying to colleges like them, and this helps a lot in my tutoring personalization. A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate student at UC Berkeley, I was a TA for twelve semesters in a range of physics classes. In 2002 I won the UC Berkeley Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor award. After graduating I was a lecturer for 2 years at 50% time. This was at California College of the Arts in San Francisco. There I developed and taught new coursed in math, physics and programming that were fine tuned for the needs of the architecture students. I can make complete sets of student evaluations available to you on request --- they are very favorable. I spent many office hours working one-on-one with the weaker students, and so I have considerable tutoring experience.
