Children loves my style of tutoring! It is FUN!

I have work as a para educator and a volunter in a special education classroom setting as well as a special education church ministry. I have over ten years experince in the Early Childhood Development area. I have tutor for over three years for company's as well as for myself.I have an A.A. in Liberal Arts, A.S. in Early Childhood Development, B.S. in Business Mangagement, Special Education Creadential (Mild/Mod), and a Master's Degree in Special Education.
My teaching style is "thinking outside of the box", where I try in multiple ways to teach a student until they have an understanding. I had no intention of teaching when I started my career in Psychology and the Analytical Chemistry industry. I continuously tried to improve my methadology to arrive at the right mix of stimulation and information to make the learning process as interesting as possible. Teaching the Physics of Xrays and chemical analysis does challenge one to keep assessing the learned content and modify as results indicate. In a one-on-one situation, I prefer dialogue. Assuming the student does the assigned work before the session, I find that a informal, relaxed conversation on the subject matter at hand encourages the student to further explore the addressed topic. If I am familiar with the student's extra-curricular interests, I attempt to relate the subject matter to such interests. I find that questioning the student in a conversational manner produces the best results, as opposed to the more stringent (i.e. boring) task of fill-in-the-blank worksheets. For writing assignments, I ask the student to write a paragraph which we then go over line-by-line so the student has immediate feedback on any errors.

I believe that students can reach their potential if they are given the tools that they need. My job is to be the toolbox for them. In college I held a double major in English/French. I am an American by birth, but my formative years were spent in the French-speaking cultures of Haiti and Martinique. I have many years experience mentoring and teaching children from pre-K to middle shool. I have worked as a substitute teacher, kindergarten leader, Bible class leader, club director and instructor and librarian.

My teaching style is one where I combine patience, efficiency, technology, variety as well as traditional methods. I believe that you need to keep learning fun and if you mix up different methods then it keeps the aspect of learning from getting boring. If a student gets bored and their mind begins to wander, they will have a much harder time retaining the information you are working so hard to teach. I believe in individualized teaching. In my sixth grade classroom, I individualized instruction wherever possible. In reading I tested my students and placed them in books at their reading level. I had them write reading summaries and corrected their first drafts. In sixth weeks, I retested and in most instances moved students to a higher level. In my math classes, I tested students and had them begin at the level that they needed to master. If a student could not add, I had him work on his addition skills.
