A Little Bit About Me...

My direct experience is with adult learners. In my current position at USA TODAY, one of the largest newspapers in the country, I am heavily involved with technology training. Not only do I work with developing new training materials (from PowerPoint to video to documentation), I also do live classroom training. I tutored younger students for my college internships where I worked with fifth graders. Both short internships were fulfilling, but I ultimately opted to go to the corporate world.
I try to give my students the tools and resources they need to move beyond what they learn in the classroom. It is not enough that a student is engaged in the classroom. During the spring of 2007 I tutored a college senior in Business Calculus. We would meet at a local bagel shop and go over homework problems he was having difficulty with. If these misunderstanding appeared to run deeper than the specified problem, I would help him understand the concept as a whole. I also tutored first through fifth grade students at a local elementary school in an after school program. These students were at risk for not passing their grade, so I would work to help them understand not only how to do their homework, but also the importance.
