My most recent internship is at Harvard University doing graphic design and marketing work for their athletic department. I have also interned at Stonehill College's Marketing Department as well as the Henson Jackson Art Gallery donig graphic design. I like to take the dry facts and rules of a subject and engage the students -- primarily through Harkness Mehtod discourse -- on the relevance of the subject and text to contemporary life, whether to absorb material or simply for the learning experience of deconstruction. Having the students write accomplished papers -- essay, research or argumentative -- is always a rewarding experience for myself and my students.

Previous students have often remarked on my practical teaching style, relying on real world examples and explanations for business and mathematics. The only way to remember information long term is to relate it to something tangible, especially in subjects like statistics and economics. Relating the ephemeral to the practical is important, and later allows for the information to be used in a real world setting much, much easier.

A Little Bit About Me...

Even though I have been in the financial services field for over 16 years, I have tutored students both in college and after college. I was a volunteer freshman basketball coach at North Cambridge Catholic for 3 years. I was a volunteer tutor every Saturday morning for the Steppingstone Foundation where I mentored middle school and high school students. I currently work for Education, Inc. as a tutor for students who are unable to make it to school for a variety of reasons. Once trust is established there is a burden to do whatever is best for that student. A Little Bit About Me...

Two things sent me back to college for a teaching degree: a belief that good reading and writing skills are a survival skill for children in today's world, and a desire to personally do something about it. It was my reading comprehension skills that enabled me to succeed in high-tech businesses without an engineering background, and it was my command of clear, persuasive writing that set me apart, time after time, from other candidates when I applied for promotions. I tutored for many years on a volunteer basis (reading, writing, and SAT.)
