My comments on tutoring Testing Strategies : Personalized strategies to pass nursing exams and NCLEX

Previous nursing tutor at Dutchess Community College, Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Have compiled multiple Power Points over the years which explain concepts in simple terms and which have illustrations of concepts which will not be found in nursing textbooks. Unfortunately, nursing textbooks tend to be a faceless landscape which is presented to the student with many complex concepts. It is important that the student be able to visualize the concepts as nursing is all about understanding and not memorization. At exam time, students are normally assigned approximately 19 chapters of reading. The brain needs concrete objects to latch onto, such as pictures. Otherwise, the brain will be unable to easily retrieve one sentence from the mass of information which the student is required to know. I have been a teacher for the last fifteen years. I teach social studies, but my specialization is teaching argumentative (college level) writing.I have done plenty of SAT prep and tutoring for students at the high school and college level. I am also a school counselor and can offer a vast array of services including FASFA, Naviance/Common Application and college/career counseling.
My style of education is to teach by modeling. Students need to see things in a step-by-step format with instructions, followed by an immediate example. I also provide sample argumentative essays for students who learn by seeing a complete model. My counseling style is to work with students, first by building a rapport and then using that as the foundation to get a feel for their college/career interests. I then look at their grades to help them build a custom transitional plan into early adulthood.

After graduating college I taught elementary K-8th grade in NYC. I taught for one year and decided to live Paris, France teaching English. I lived in Paris, France for 1.5 years then moved to Rome, Italy, again teaching English. My experiences were wonderful as I met people who really enjoyed learning English and needed it for work.
