I was not able to obtain a teaching job when I graduated from college so went to work in the field of business. My jobs included: private secretary to a County Judge, bookkeeper, loan processor for a savings and loan, receptionist, cashier, manager, assistant librarian and owner of an electric motor repair business. These experiences have given me a wide under-standing of the business world and of the different personalities of people. I have also been a substitute teacher in several different subjects.
I have worked with children of all ages and enjoy helping them learn. I realize that everyone does not learn at the same speed and am very patient and understanding. I've worked with children, adolescents, and adult learners. I've worked in one-on-one settings in a writing center lab and have lectured to a classroom on a college campus and in an on-line setting. I, having taken several teaching practicums and pedagogy classes, work to constantly improve and revise my teaching methods. I try to create a balance between learner-centered theory and teacher-centered.
