I try to present a concept or fact in several different ways so that I can resonate with the students thinking style. I have been told that I am a very good communicator and educator and can make concepts that seem complicated look much simpler and more comprehendible. I spent a year overseas right out of high school tutoring my cousins. Later, after college, I volunteered to teach Spanish at a "homeschool" in Oregon for 3 months, then spent 6 months teaching Spanish then guitar at Lane Community College. I was assistant teacher for 2 years at a Christian preschool in Kennewick, WA. I have taught private lessons for 4 or 5 years altogether in the various places I have lived, teaching piano, guitar, voice and Spanish. Once I even taught English as a second language for a while. I enjoyed teaching basic music theory and how to play piano by ear to a blind student once. He made me proud at the recital. I have more than 5 years experience as a substitute teacher at almost every level. I have had the opportunity to also serve as a long term substitute teacher. I also have 1 year of experience teaching at a pre-school level, 2.5 years teaching at a post-secondary level, and a semester of tutoring a middle school student.
