My primary objective is for the students I teach to understand the concepts and do as well as they are capable in the courses. In addition, I want the students I teach to develop critical thinking and the ability to problem solve. I can accomplish this by being knowledgeable, citing examples and answering questions in a way that can help them to better understand the subject matter. I will generally include a number of early background lectures to make sure all the students start off at the same point.
I worked as a Chemistry lab TA in college and I taught the labs. As a graduate student I trained other grad students and techs, often taking them through 10 to 12 weeks of continuous mentoring. I would say that my teaching style is very interactive. Anyone can give instructions but I love feedback from a one on one situation as well as a group environment. I base alot of my instruction on analogies; when a person can relate an experience or another word to a term being tought, their understanding is broadened and 99% of the time embedded in the longterm memory.
