I have 25 years experience in teaching from grades 6 through college; public schools; private schools; community college. My masters degree is in history. I have written one government text, several chapters of high school history texts, and economics teacher materials while working for Glencoe/ McGraw-Hill publishing. I have an Ohio professional certificate, still up to date. I am retired, but still writing for a web site.

I enjoy teaching very much. I think a strength trying to use a student's active content or prior knowledge to connect to material. My attempts are always to make the student feel empowered by the education process. If you can connect to way what they are into, either cartoons, hip-hop, popular culture, with conservative humor, then sometimes you can gain their understanding much quicker. A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from the College of Charleston with a degree in Sociology. Almost immediately I went to work in the behavioral health field. While there, I found an ability to connect with, and build a rapport with the residents at the facility. After a year, I took a position as a Clinical Counselor at the Medical University of South Carolina, working with emotionally disabled adolescents and putting together "groups" or behavioral classes in the hospital. Some students are more aggressive and advanced but there are those who are silent and will not speak out about difficulties understanding competencies. I prefer not to embarrass those students but give them the opportunity to learn one-on-one. My love of the French language led me to pursue my BA specializing in the language and culture in college. After college I immediately traveled to France on a very generous scholarship from Rotary Foundation. This permitted me to live and study at a very old and prestigious university in Poitiers, France.
