*Algebra I* is one of my top subjects!

I started teaching chemistry in 1964. During my child-raising years, I did a lot of substitute teaching in various subjects, and worked at part-time and temporary classroom teaching and tutoring. My longest position was at University of Massachusetts, Lowell campus, (1993 through 2004, before moving to Florida), teaching 3 different levels of Freshman Chemistry. I have tutored chemistry, math, and biology in Florida since 2007, as an employee of Advanced Learning Center, St. Petersburg, until 2011, and independently to the present time. A major portion has been at Shorecrest Prep, St Petersburg, 2007 to now. I have met students at school, home, libraries and other public places. Before I started teaching, I engaged in cancer and space research.

**My comments on tutoring Algebra I :** 8-12th grade, as well as adult learners. Algebra can be fun (I promise)!

After attending (and teaching in) a graduate program in American/British Literature and Language at L.S.U., I realized that my true calling was teaching. I began teaching English, Journalism, S.A.T. Prep., Latin, and other subjects in Springfield, MA in 2003 in an alternative, urban high school. I taught (and tutored after school) until I moved to Florida in 2009, when my spouse began graduate studies at U.S.F. Since then, I have continued to tutor a wide range of students in subjects ranging from high school Latin, 5th grade Math, college English, S.A.T. and G.E.D. Preparation, and graduate level writing, and I have extensive training and experience with students who struggle with dyslexia, ADD/ADHD and ESL issues, as well as with children diagnosed with Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD) and Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD).

I believe that all students can and will achieve ... read more

**"Half of knowledge is knowing where to find it."**

Once while subbing, I entered a classroom where the students had been allowed to watch Jerry Springer on TV for the last two weeks. I couldn't let this continue, but I saw how emotional the class was about the show. I encouraged them to write their own talk show and told them we would perform it the next day. I find that connecting student's interest with the subject matter to be learned is the best way to teach.

After completing my undergraduate degree in English Literature at Florida State University, I worked as a substitute teacher in Hillsborough County for two years. In 2009, I completed my Master's Degree in Communication at University of South Florida while simultaneously employed at the Department of Special Education. I have been tutoring with Advanced Learners for 1 year and am currently an Adjunct Instructor of Public Speaking at HCC Dale Mabry.

Tutoring is not my part-time job, it is a full time endeavor. I tutor in many subjects including Elementary, Middle and High School curriculums. I tutor all ages. By working with my students, their parents and teachers, we formulate a plan and goals for our sessions. Sometimes I am a tutor for a test, or a coach for a project or a study skills adviser. I have experience working with students with ADHD and those with specific learning issues and IEP's.

I am currently a college student at SPC (St. Petersburg College). I am currently working on getting my general AA degree to pursue my career as a pharmacist. classes I am taking right now are college algebra, chemistry, composition II and world religions. I could help with college algebra a little bit due to the fact that I am still learning. if I do come to a situation in which I do not know how to do the problem I will definitely find out how to do it by the next day in order to teach you. also since I am currently in school I would need to know a time and place that fits in with my schedule. to make this easier, I have one class on Mon. at 7pm...two classes on Tue. at 5:30pm and 7pm...no classes on Wed. or Fri. and have classes Fri. at 11am-12 and 7pm so on Fri. I am free after 12-5pm.

I am flexible to however or whatever fits you.

**Always work toward the enjoyment of learning and discovery!!**

My degree a BS in Electrical Engineering, with an emphasis on math. I spent the 2011 and 2012 school year as a math and science substitute teacher in Pinellas County. I received my certification by the FDOE in math and physics. As my resume’ indicates, my career grew in applied engineering and science.
My staff management work was promoting engineered products used to increase manufacturing productivity. This included complex proposals to many different industries in Boston, Chicago, Atlanta and Tampa. My leadership work was always centered on the learning process, since teaching of fundamentals was the centerpiece of my approach. There is no greater reward, as a teacher, than to experience a student discovering the material, which is important to his progress. I believe I can handle the curriculum and add to the application of the concepts to be covered in class.
