Super tutor!

I enjoy teaching and observing my students' different learning styles. I respect each student's individual method of assimilation. I work hard to accommodate his or her particular needs. I delight in the dynamics of the classroom and strongly believe that I can make a difference in whether the student becomes engaged in the learning process.
I place a high value on formal education and believe strongly in lifelong learning, for the betterment of the individual and, ultimately, for society. While raising three young children, I obtained my undergraduate degree in business administration. In later acquiring a law degree, I was introduced to the rigorous demands of such study and to the fascinating arena of reasoning and analytical thinking required by this discipline. I have tutored young children intermittenly over several years, with one stint of four years length as a Literacy Vo ... read more

My comments on tutoring Life Science : Have tutored up through the 8th grade level.

Most of my training has been hands on experience. I consider this a bonus as it promotes practical application. I did attend Boston University in search of a biology degree and marine biology minor. Personal circumstances made completion unavailable. I have also received certification in varoius animal care related fields and also hold the status of First Responder for Marine Animal Strandings with the Clearwater Marine Aquarium.
I like to use working examples of principles. I also embrace the "why" behind the facts as a method of reinforcing knowledge gained.

Tutoring By Sam! Core Studies Tutor with over 13 years Exp!

I gear my teaching style to the individual I am working with. In 14 years I have learned that even though a method may work for one student, it does not necessarily mean it will work for another. In the first few session I test a small variety of applicable teaching methods and adapt them as time goes on.
I have been working with students in both one-on-one and group settings for going on 14 years. I began tutoring groups of children at an inner city after school program in Language Arts and Reading Comprehension. I went into further training at my high school and became a designated math tutor for those in Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and Geometry. After high school I revisted my loved for tutoring at Jefferson County Community College where I tutored Reading Comprehension, Composition, and Study Skills. Throughout the years I have tutored a variety of students in various areas through ... read more

I have a good experience of tutoring hundreds of students over a decade period of time. I have tutored from first grade student to bachelors' degree students. I have formally taught students from grades four to ten for six months as a science teacher. Recently, I helped my wife in Anatomy and Physiology I and II and Lab and College Algebra. She got straight A's in them upgrading her GPA. Most importantly, my tutoring helped my students to uplift their self-esteem, confidence and to accept learning as a process which can be made more pleasant and simple. :)

I was employed by the Interior Design department at FSU to teach undergraduate courses, being an instructor of record for the inital course for the department, Design Fundamentals. I have a passion for teaching and learning- it runs in the family as my husband is a middle school science and math teacher. Our parents are lifelong edcuators in Wakulla County. Now that I have earned my Master's degree I would like to continue that family tradition.
I believe that while students may forget specifics of what they are learning, they will never forget how teachers make them feel. I also belive that the best teachers are the ones that make themselves less needed the longer they teach specific studdents. I want to empower the students I teach to be able to learn and excell on their own in the future. I hope to make a difference by empowering the students I teach to learn to edcuate themselv ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I strongly believe that each child has the ability to learn if given the proper instruction based on his/her individual academic need. Instructors should be versatile in their teaching strategies in order to insure each child is successful based on individual ability. My job as an educator is to "reach and teach" and is strongly driven by my philosophy that it indeed "takes a village to raise a child".
As a high level accomplished Master Teacher, my main focus is student achievement and success. Currently, I am a 2nd Grade General Education Elementary Instructor. I have taught general education for 5 years and inclusion for 5 as well. My vast background experience equips me with the proper tools needed to assist individuals in reaching their maximum academic potential.

Learning needs to have importance to a student. They need to understand why they need to learn the things they are being taught. Then it makes more sense to them. If possible, teach to their strengths. If they like computers, find a website that gives them practice. If they are better writers than listeners, have them dictate and read it back to you. Flashcards work well for some while others have difficulty remembering things. It all depends on the strengths of that child as to what is the best way to teach.
I have taught kindergarten through eighth grade special education for the last twenty years. I have had experience working with students who were struggling learners including my own child. Sometimes teaching means showing a different way to do it. I have learned the skills needed for students to learn and remember what they have learned. I have tutored many students ... read more

As a special needs teacher, I have worked with many students who simply needed someone to show them a different way to learn the material. Learning can be made so much easier when taught in a format that is fun. This makes it enjoyable and more likely to be remembered. In a tutoring one-on-one kind of setting, times tables could be taught with a deck of cards and using the two numbers thrown out as the problem. Reading and writing can be done by taking pictures and creating a story from the pictures you have taken. It costs the price of a throw away camera and the students love it. I bleieve learning must be fun.
I am a very patient, soft spoken person who understands what it is like to struggle. I also had difficulty learning in school and wish someone would have taken the time to notice I wasn't being 'lazy' but really had a hard time comprehending and remembering what I r ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

When I teach children I first look to see where they have the most need. I use a variety of assessments and tools to identify their areas of weakness and then plan activities for their learning to strengthen those areas. I believe that finding and filling the gaps that may hinder their learning will help them gain academic success in the future. I believe that children learn in different ways and I aim to provide a variety of approaches. For example, they can learn through games, graphic organizers, hands on examples, or other means. I try to find the best approach to help children succeed.
I have twelve years experience teaching students from 2nd to 5th grade. My first six years were spent teaching 2nd grade at Caroline Brevard and Florida State University Schools. Then, I taught Math to 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade for one year at FSU Schools using the Project CHILD method which invol ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I moved to NYC in 2001 to become a Broadway actor; however, I did not want to live the actor "lifestyle" and in essence become a professional waiter. I signed up for an alternative teaching program and accepted a position as a social studies teacher in the projects of East New York, Brooklyn. I quickly realized that teaching was a full time job, and I did not have time to pursue acting, which was fine because I enjoyed my experience as a teacher and as a mentor to children who needed strong male leadership. I taught for two years in the classroom, as well as all after school and Saturday programs in math and literacy. I also took up an evening job tutoring students at the local Sylvan Learning Center in Brooklyn, NY.
My personal philosophy is to let children make their own discoveries. I am essentially a person that will guide a student to that discovery and ask questions all ... read more

I believe that learning is a great pleasure, not only for the student, but also for the teacher. In order for a student to truly learn and retain information, it is important to have a teacher who is patient, respectful of different learning styles, and able to convey information clearly. I have been told by many people that I am a very good teacher because I convey information clearly and simply. In addition, I am very detail-oriented, thorough, and patient. I believe that I can help your child succeed and help him/her truly understand the subject matter that he/she is struggling with.

My BS in Secondary Education from Florida State University has equipped me with the knowledge and experience in educational psychology and teaching strategies through both course- and fieldwork in Leon County, where I assisted students in their reading, ESOL, and writing for grammar and composition. Because of my degree, I was also afforded the opportunity to student teach middle school Language Arts for one semester, where I learned to plan and apply instruction, and adapt it to the needs of varying students and levels of ability in grammar, reading comprehension, and essay writing. Over the last year, I have tutored college students in English, reading, writing, and the arts (including English as a second language).

I believe children want to learn, if it is done with humor and patience. It just takes the time and effort to find the way that works best. I am a person that wants every child to succeed and will work to find the best way for your child.
Even though I received my B.A. in Criminal Justice, I am knowledgeable in several other areas of study. In addition, I have learned extensive grammatical skills due to writing research papers and laboratory reports, along with essays because of my interest in other various fields of study.

A Little Bit About Me...

I've been told that I have a unique style of teaching. I like to teach using rhymes, antonyms, and relating the subject to familiar life situations. My experience with this style of teaching seems to help students retain information better while simultaneously enjoying the process. I try to incorporate fun into the learning process and always commend students for achieving their goals. Many times I offer incentives for improving grades or improved test scores/progress reports. I try to make the tutoring process enjoyable for both me and the student, while also making sure the student learns as much as possible in each session.
