Before having children I worked as an teacher's aide at the local pre-school, working with 3-5 year-olds. After that I became a teacher's aid for the local middle school, working with children that were not allowed to go to regular classes due to their behavior. My main job was to show them how to write essays, reports, papers, etc. I also worked with their families as well and I loved it.
Working with children of all ages has taught me just how important education is. Reading and writing is especially important and they will need it in their everyday life. Once I am assigned a child I initally spend time going over a typical homework assignment to see where they are having some trouble. I get them to read out loud to me to see what their level of reading is. Some kids have problems sounding out the words or with simple rules of grammar. Once I see where they are at then I start bringing in some workbooks to help them in that particular area and apply that to their homework.
Along with my educational background I was a Girl Scout Troup leader for three years and a volunteer for the American Lung Association and American Heart Association.
