I have always enjoyed teaching. I try to take into consideration the individual's learning style when teaching. Many kids learn best when a "hands on" approach is incorporated into the lecture or instruction. I am laid back, patient, have a good sense of humor, and have never had difficulties connecting with youth of all ages. Sometimes, I have used creative ways to teach. I feel it is important to hold the interest of a student and ignite a childs' natural curiosity.
The majority of my experience lies within the field of Human Services/Counseling. However, I have substitute taught for about 18 months, elementary level and high school level. In addition, I have tutored foreign languages on a college level for two semesters.

I have a BA and a MA in Sociology and attended Dartmouth as a part of my MA. Although my primary interests are education, criminology and issues related to adolescents, I am a well-rounded sociologist with relevant theoretical and methodological competences. In my current job as a content manager in a marketing company I am responsible for educating new writers and I take pride in a job well done. My passion is making mathematics accessible. After high school I was underwhelmed by mathematics. However as I took more math in college, I realized how much I had missed in high school. As I learned more mathematics, I became determined to make it my business to find and implement better methods of educating people on mathematics in a way that does not overwhelm them, but simultaneously makes their learning experience more useful. I studied teacher education as an undergraduate, and attended graduate school at Dartmouth where the program in mathematics has a specific focus on preparing one to teach mathematics. I graduated from Plymouth State University in 2008 with my B.S. in Health Education. My option was Wellness Management which has a business component but in obtaining the degree I was required to do some teaching as well. (Not formally, more presentations to my peers and community education. I do not have a teacher certification.) I am a Certified Health Education Specialist which is a certification on top of my degree. I did some mentoring while I lived in Dover, NH and greatly enjoyed my time spent working with youth.
