The Achievement Centers, our after school tutorial/diagnostic clinic and before and after school care, is available for all ages and subjects. Tutoring and diagnostic testing is available after school, evenings (Monday – Friday) and Saturday mornings. The clinic is available year-round. Our testing clinician and school psychologist offer a Psychoeducational Evaluation to all new students. The testing is scheduled for two three hour sessions on separate days during after school hours. The evaluation consist of various test measuring a student’s cognitive abilities, processing skills, IQ, and academic levels. The evaluation will determine a student’s strengths and weaknesses, as well as how they think, reason and process information. A conference will be held with the family and/or the student. I graduated from Illinois State University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology, and a friend recommended me for an assistant job within a special education cooperative. I accepted the position and continued doing this for five years. The time I spent doing this career is what ultimately made me realize my love for teaching children. During the first couple of semesters at Illinois State, I was able to substitute part-time, which was also a great experience since it allowed me to work in a variety of different classrooms and to teach diverse groups of children. I completed all tasks as assigned by the teacher, including the instruction of lesson plans adapted for specific students and groups of students.

I recently graduated from North Park University, summa cum laude. I have earned a BGS in Human Development which has enabled me to understand the cultural, social and psychological dynamics of human development. While at NPU, I served as a private humanities tutor and strived to help students achieve their academic goals. For the past year and half, I have volunteered my time at Gilda’s Club Chicago and have worked closely with men, women, and children who are diagnosed with cancer. I primarily served as a facilitator in the children’s school and coordinated play activities for children and adolescents. I am currently enrolled in a M.ED program for Special Education at UIC to further my education and work with children and adults in the community. I believe a great teacher needs to have proper skills and talents for teaching. I learned a lot while growing up from a great teacher; my mother. My mother was a teacher for thirty years teaching elementary grades. I learned a great teacher needs to be respectful, patient and to be able to illustrate the lesson in an easy, simple way. I try to provide simple analogies for each concept. This enables the student to grasp the concept easier and faster. In addition I help my students to learn better by asking few questions about the concept. This will help them to truly understand the lesson by using their analytical thinking.
