Let's make learning fun!!!

I like to do a lot of positive reinforcing and reaffirming.
I have worked with children for over 15 years. During this time I have provide homework help and tutoring in Math, Reading and Spanish. The children that I have worked with range in age from 5 to 17 years old. I have also done an extensive amount of work with infants and toddlers in the field of early learning as a nanny. My experience in working with children of so many ages has helped me to know what steps to implement in order to make children feel comfortable and confident while addressing challenges to learning materials. I have always enjoyed math and reading as a student and spent a short period of time studying Spanish abroad. During my time in college I was even more hands on with the youth enrichment at my church, working as a counselor/mentor for Vacation Bible School and the after school program.

My comments on tutoring Elementary Reading : I have taught elementary reading for thirty years in various grades from Kindergarten to sixth grade.

I use a combination of both online games and Websites and hands-on manipulatives. First, I like for the student to take multiple intelligence tests and then I know how best to help the student. The information I gain from the analysis is extremely informative. It tells me where the students' strengths lie such as some students are musically inclined, some are visual learners, auditory learners, some are mathematicians and various other styles. Then, the style that they learn through the best is how I would teach the student; this is based on Gardner's Multiple Intelligence. Second, meeting the standards are essential in today's education system. The four C's of the 21st century is also necessary for students' to learn. They are collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity.

My comments on tutoring Elementary Reading : I have been studying Elementary Education for the past four years. Two of the courses was about teaching the Reading subject to Elementary Grade Students. During my Student Teaching, I worked with all fourteen students in their reading. I enjoy looking at the student's interest and finding a book base off of that. I found that students are more likely to want to read if the book is of interest to them.

I have a very Hands-On Teaching Style
I have been working with children for the past seven years. Four of those years have included homeschooling pre-school and pre-kindergarten as well as homework help and tutoring the children that I was babysitting. I love tutoring because it allows me to work one-on-one with my students. Tutoring, also, allows me the opportunity to create the ultimate tutoring experience based off of the students learning style and interest. The students that I conducted homework help and tutoring with were within grades 2nd through 6th. I conducted my Student Teaching in a first grade classroom and loved every minute of it.
