A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate student from Central Michigan University I have learned several different methods to use when tutor students. Knowing that all students do not learn the same way or at the same speed I use several different programs/methods when tutoring a student. With younger studengts I use a combination of work books and computer lessons along with small homework assignments. With older students I use programs such as writing small reports at first while slowly building them up to larger yet easy to grasp essays. I work with the students on topics that they are interested in to try to make their tutoring as enjoyable as an enjoyable experience as possible.

While working at a tutoring center, I created detailed progress reports and organized individual lesson plans for each student and discussed their progress with parents on a daily basis. I began officially tutoring four years ago, starting up a private tutoring business. Through it, I have taught ages 5 through 55 in nearly all subjects, including mathematics, science, physics, ACT, and English. I also have tutored publicly at Oakland University for one year, where I earned my tutoring certification (level 1).
My passion is in watching others to succeed, and I am willing to change my own methods to make that happen. Thus, my tutoring style depends almost entirely on the student as I have found that the most common reason a tutor is needed is that the student's learning style does not match with the teacher's teaching style. I can tutor through examples, visually drawing concepts, talking, describing the reasons behind a concept, and most importantly, I can relate almost every subject to daily life.

I have been a guest teacher in several school districts over the years off andd on. Since I worked in Telecommunications most of my life, I worked occasionally for agencies that assign guest teachers to different schools daily. In my current degree program, I write extensively on various topics such as human development and leadership. I have tutored before in basic math and basic algebra as well as english.
My teaching style is interactive. I like to give students a chance to apply what they have learned in groups or aloud amid classroom peers. Each student is different and might require more assistance than others, so in practice, the more the student works at a problem the better he/she becomes. In some cases remediation could be in order and if so, take home practice work could be in order.
