A Little Bit About Me...

After I graduated high school I went to a community college just to get the feel of college. I decided to major in speech because I was interested in correct speech. Not only how words were pronounced but also what mechanisms that are used to produce correct speech. I went on to Delta State University to pursue my Bachelor's in Speech and Hearing, and might I add they had a spectacular program. I learned a lot more than what makes a person have a speech disorder.
I tutored at the local elementary school for two summers straigth and absolutely loved it. Children are a joy to work with becuase they are eager to learn. I feel that if you make it interesting for a child then their learning experience becomes something that they won't forget.

I have worked with Hawks Learning System Program, which is an College Algebra Software thats is used by the mathematics professors at Alcorn State University. Within completing my degree I have taken higher level mathematics courses such as Calculus I, II, and III, as well as Abstract Algebra, Foundations of Mathematics, History of Mathematics, Discrete Mathematics, Mathematical Probability, Teaching Secondary Mathematics, Number Theory, Linear Algebra, and Statistics I just to name a few. A Little Bit About Me...

My goal is really for the person I am tutoring to fully understand the information they are trying to learn. In this way, they can understand the basics and build upon that. I believe the best way to approach a new student is to find out their weaknesses and strengths. Then, really put some hard work into making their weak points better and making their strong points the best they can be. I think that it is best for a student to know how to do their work with AND without a calculator for full understanding in mathematics. Finally, I think it is important for a tutor to try to be a friend to the student so that the environment is comfortable and inviting for the best learning outcomes.
