In 2006 I began working for the American English Institute as a tutor to university students studying English as a Foreign Language. In 2007 I gained employment with the Eugene, OR school district as a Classified Substitute where I fulfilled a variety of positions; mostly working with IEP students or assisting in Learning Resource Centers. In 2008 I graduated from the University of Oregon with a BA in Chinese and a minor in Asian Studies. In July of 2009 I had the opportunity to travel to Indonesia as an ESL teacher through English First. I lived and worked in Indonesia for one year teaching English grammar, writing style, reading, speech, listening, and business culture to students ranging in age from 3 years old to business professionals. Anyone can learn any skill that they are willing to work at. I personally prefer to learn by doing, so that is also how I teach. When a student works through examples, discussing how concepts apply, that application of the concept helps to solidify the knowledge. I am patient when teaching, and I believe that a relaxed environment is best for learning. Communication is the key to both teaching and learning. I earned a Bachelors degree in accounting, with clusters in Finance and Spanish. I have work experience in auditing, tax and financial analysis. Currently I am working on an MBA, and plan to begin a doctoral program in 2011 as I prepare to become an accounting professor. I worked as a youth counselor for three summers, teaching teenagers from age 14-18. I love teaching, which is why I have chosen to teach accounting as a career.

My master's thesis was on computer-based training. My experience includes teaching end users and other trainers (train the trainer). Classroom training subjects have included using software programs, developing online documentation, writing skills, communications training, policies and so on. Past clients have been Blue Cross Blue Shield, U.S. Navy, Chevron and many more. Further, I have mentored co-workers in the past and enjoy one-on-one coaching very much. My approach is to incorporate multiple learning styles (visual, auditory and so on). I also like to incorporate skills training as part of a scenario when possible. I believe students will rise to the level of expectations set for them. I am a bit of a comedian, and I use humor to allay frustration in learning situations. I believe in setting goals and charting a specific path for reaching them, while being flexible enough to alter the path along the way. Praise and positive reinforcement are powerful tools when teaching challenging material, and I use them frequently. I received a BA in General Business from WSU, and was honored as a Cum Laude graduate. The courses were varied and included a wide array of math application, from supply and demand curves to interest rate calculations. My classmates gave me the nickname "Webster" because I was frequently asked to edit their papers and to tutor them in several different subjects. I love working with teenagers, and watching their faces change when they really GET a concept for the first time!

As "stay at home" mom of 6, I have used my two Bachelors' degrees for the education of my own children. I've taught them essential reading and writing skills, study habits, organization skills, science projects, practical application of principles, and a love of learning.
