I am an experienced teacher of grades 7-12, having taught in my native Australia for over 17 years. I have specialized in teaching senior English and English as a Second Language. I have been a faculty head as well as Curriculum Coordinator. My teaching experience has involved preparing students for state-wide testing. I have written detailed teaching documents which were prepared for the faculty and which contained extensive lesson plans. I am currently completing a masters degree in English Literature and am working as a free lance copy editor.
I have a very flexible approach to teaching and am able to adapt to each student's unique learning style. I am familiar with ‘constructivist’ learning and have successfully applied this approach in the classroom with various strategies designed to assist all students in maximizing their learning. I encourage students to activel ... read more

I enjoy teaching kids of all ages and get along well with them while maintaining a degree of respect from them. I am capable at keeping them on task, even with challenging personalities. I enjoy doing hands-on work as well as print focused work. I have developed patience working with my own six kids in our home. I believe strongly that one-on-one tutoring is the most effective way to help a child achieve and any child will do well when the teaching is tailored to their needs. I will work with parents and students to discover the best possible approach for their child. I do not believe in the one-size-fits-all method of educating a child.
Although I value my college degree in biology and formal education, my real love for learning and teaching has been honed over the years teaching my own kids at home. I've homeschooled them in every general subject for the last eight years. ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I firmly believe that a good education must be adaptable, flexible, and incorporate a variety of learning styles if it is to be of maximum benefit to students. When teaching, I speak with my students about the kinds of activities they feel assist them most in retaining information as well as observing their learning style independently. I do my best to include activities that incorporate visual, kinesthetic, and oral learners. School isn’t always fun and interesting; it is called “work” for a reason. However, if I can’t make it fun I can at least make it engaging and that is what I strive for. Every student can achieve if they are given the right tools, support network, and encouragement to do so.
In 2006 I began working for the American English Institute as a tutor to university students studying English as a Foreign Language. In 2007 I gained employment with the Eugene, OR school ... read more

I love two things in this world - teaching and fishing. As a teacher, I believe that my job is to inspire students to want to learn and to help students develop stronger strategies and skills to make their learning more effective. Each learner is different, and I pride myself on my ability to make learning relevant to each individual student by tailoring instruction to meet their strengths and weaknesses, and finding a way to make both the act of learning and the material learned interesting and compelling. I love teaching and learning and I want to help make all learners I work with more successful.
I have over a decade of experience working with students in diverse settings - from summer camps where I worked as a counselor and director, to a non-profit where I taught science programs to learners of all ages, to a formal classroom setting. I have earned a BS and MS degree in N ... read more
