After a 25 year career with Texas Instruments, I chose to continue my love for math and science by attaining a TEA certificate for high school mathematics. My passion for education blossomed while volunteering as a tutor with Somali refugee children in Pittsburgh, PA during college. I worked with families in their homes to develop English reading, writing, and speaking skills. After graduating with a B.A. in History and Political Science I joined Teach For America, where I taught first grade for two years and substitute taught pre-kindergarten through fifth grade for one year. I worked at San Jacinto College North as a Math tutor for all math levels for almost 2 years. Then, I worked at Galena Park High School with a 10th grade class in a program called "GEAR UP" for about 1 yr until they shut the program down for funding issues.
