Retired teacher with 27 years of experience!

I have 27 years of experience teaching and case managing public school special education students in grades 9-12. I have also team-taught a wide variety of "regular ed" classes, such as English, Math, Science, Social Studies, even Home Ec.! Special Tutor/Teacher

I have taught school for 29 1/2 years in Special Education . My positions were in Preschool Special Needs, Elementary Special Needs, and High School Occupational Course of Study. I have taught in both SC and NC. I love teaching preschool -elementary students. I have always had a passion for teaching because both of my grandmothers and my mother were teachers. Now my 3 sisters are teachers.
I try to teach by the style that seems to be the best for that student to learn. I am very patient and realize that each student takes a varied amount of time to grasp material. Hands on materials and fun activities are great ways to keep the student engaged.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have wanted to help others learn for as long as I can remember; even as early as the fourth grade I was helping my classmates with assignments. I have always loved learning and helping others to learn. I earned a BS in Psychology in college so I would have a better understanding of how the mind works and learns. I never turned a person down; if I did not know much about a subject I would research it. I even took a course that would teach me how to assist individuals with essays and research papers. I have tutored students in many subjects mostly focusing on psychology including many different areas such as introduction, statistics and experimental design. I have also tutored in biology, history, math, and basic computer skills.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate from an accredited college, I have learned and excelled as a science major. I have earned a BA in Biology, which has enabled me to obtain a well rounded education, which focused on math and science. In addition, I have learned extensive grammatical skills throughout my educational experience in writing laboratory reports, research papers, and on my own study I, myself conducted. For the past six years I have worked with challenged children and adults all subject areas. I am very hands on, so I like to take my students outside and let them touch and feel things we are learning about. The first thing that I try to do is get to know my client, mainly focusing on what they both like and dislike about school. Then we narrow it down even further to the subject that they are having problems in. I ask them what they think the problem is, find out what the school/teacher thinks the problem is (through review of their coursework including past homework and tests) and come up with a solution that will benefit the student, teacher, and parent to improve and fix the situation.
