My comments on tutoring Teacher Cert Exams : Have worked with several students and teachers in preparation for both the Mass. and Fl. certification exams--General Knowledge and English (content and pedagogy).

I believe that all students can and will achieve academic success given appropriate instruction; i.e., instruction that is differentiated according to students' specific needs, learning styles, interests, and personal goals. As a classroom teacher and as a personal tutor, I have seen almost miraculous results in a relatively short period of time, both in terms of academic achievement and student confidence. I got my first degree in English Education because of my love of literature and my desire to share that love with students. At the time I graduated, there was a greater need for elementary teachers in my area and I added elementary education to my teaching certification in order to make myself more marketable. I tend to treat Math as a Game; how do I (the student) get to the answer? I go over the basics, set up the "plan of attack" to reach a conclusion. It's re-emphasizing the "Rules of the Game". I really want to get the parent(s) involved in this process.
I love tutoring, especially when students get it! The "light bulb" goes on.The most remarks I get are - "why did'nt my teacher show us that way?" I was chosen to teach math at a charter middle school; but the Board of Education (Manatee) voted to shut down that school after three days on the job. Subsequently, I began tutoring Math at Manatee Community College for three years. I've taken several refresher Math courses at MCC (3.66 GPA).
