Intervention Specialist - Tutor Grades K-12

I tend to use three different teaching styles. Demonstrator or Personal Model, Facilitator and Delegator. However, I find that students learn best when teaching styles best match the students learning styles.
I have taught at the primary and secondary grade level in all subject areas. I have been a substitute for two years and have worked within diverse school districts around Ohio. I hold a B.S degree with Latin Honors in Special Education K-12 and have taken various courses for reading specialist. I attended Ohio State University for two years and Ohio Dominican University. Bachelor's degree in mathematics, graduating in May 2013.

I am currently a senior at Urbana University and will be graduating in may of 2013. Along side of being a full time student of mathematics I also play varsity baseball at the university and have received the scholar athlete award several times in my four years. Being a division 2 athlete has given me the best of both worlds I believe in that play on the field was competitive and forced me to become a leader but also helped in making me accell in the classroom as it is said the student always comes first in student athlete. My tudoring experience has delt mostly with college teammates not majoring in math but who are forced to take a math class to graduate. But I do also love kids and can relate simple math to things they do and love, I have coached a 6th grade basketball team and it was one of the best experiences of my life thus far. For any other questions please feel free to email me ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I have tutored three students: two middle school students in math, one high school student in AP biology. I also occasionally explain academic subjects to my friends and classmates. Through my years of experience, I've found that it is most effective to make sure the students are really thinking. When they get stuck, I ask them questions to point them in the right direction, but I almost never give them the answer unless a lot of time would be wasted otherwise. I'm also very good at catching mistakes, but instead of pointing them out right away, I usually also ask them leading questions to help them find the mistake on their own.

If you have the desire to learn then you can learn!

I am all to familiar with the feeling of "I can't learn this subject" "I am not smart enough to do it" I can tell you that anyone can do it with alittle hard work and desire.

A Little Bit About Me...

While pursuing my BA accounting and BA in business finance at Wilmington College, I was very involved in tutoring other students at the college. At Wilmington College, we had supplemental instruction which is basically a group tutoring session where the leader is chosen by the professor teaching the course. I was a supplemental instructor for five (5) different courses and I was also an individual tutor for the five supplemental instruction classes along with two (2) other courses. I really enjoy tutoring and helping students with their classes.
I love teaching and have wanted to be a teacher from a very young age. Each student is different in how they learn the material needed for class and I find it to be very important to teach the student in the method that works best for them. I communicate very easily with students, I am very patient, and I above all care about the stud ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am very dynamic personable adult who loves to laugh, but also knows how to get down to business and get work done. I think it is very important to not only feed information to your student, but also to create a relationship them. This helps the student to feel comfortable so they can ask questions, even those they may feel to be stupid. I have been able to teach non-technical elderly adults computers and teens that had no interest in religion by creating a relaxed atmosphere and attempting to make the subjects interesting, relevant and fun. I believe one of the keys of effective teaching is making things as interactive as possible, trying to get students to teach themselves as we proactively guide them through subjects.
I have been teaching for 25 years. Most of my teaching was in religious settings working with teens, but I have also tutored younger children with school studies ... read more
