As a Social Worker I came in contact with young adults who have dropped out of school because of becoming young parents, drug use, and or a lack of support from parents. My initial contact was to address child abuse and or neglect but I quickly recognized the bigger picture included their inability to process information because of a lack of education. I started a parenting class to give them a safe place to start looking at these issues.

When I was a student teacher, the "fault" my teaching supervisor found in me was that of doing "too much individiuaized and small group teaching" in my combined classroom of 1st and 2nd graders. He didn't think I could keep it up but I did and with good results. Helping a student to "make the connection", to "get it", to accomplish what he needs educationally is so important because sucess leads to more sucess.
