I am pretty versatile when it comes to teaching. I see what works best for a given individual or group and try to meet students where they are academically. I also attempt to motivate students by incorporating topics they enjoy into lessons. I am a former high school and middle school English teacher who is currently pursuing a Master's of English at East Carolina University. This past semester I tutored in a writing studio at ECU. For the past few years I have been tutoring students K-12 in various subjects, mostly language arts. I also have substitute-taught at a couple different schools in Pitt County. I love to help students become over achievers. I discovered that my success is directly related to how I overcame my past challenges with math, particularly Algebra. Reflecting back on the years when I attended high school, I struggled with math. Once I was accepted to NC A&T, I realized that I had developed a fear of math and did not understand basic algebraic concepts. After being assigned a peer tutor as a freshman, I overcame my fear of math. Due to his mentoring I was successful at conquering math concepts and performed well in all other academic courses. I have always had a passion for teaching and helping to educate people. I have earned a BS in Business Administration and a MS in Accounting.
