I developed a heart for young people at an early age, as my parents were missionaries to Native Americans. I truly believe that education has changed my life and promote higher education. I am able to relate to children of all ages and in the past two years especially related to high school and young college students who were looking for their way in life. I have worked in a higher education environment since 2000. I tuaught CPR and First Aid classes for 4 years for Child Care providers from 1996 to 2000. I am one class from completing my MBA in accounting. I will officially graduate in May of 2010.

Many students struggle in school for a variety of reasons, and I strive to make sure that each student’s educational needs are met in order for the student to achieve his/her maximum potential. I began my teaching career after 10 years in another field. I have a Bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature and a Master’s degree in Education. I have 5 years of teaching experience both at the high school and community college level. As an English teacher, I have extensive experience with all aspects of Language Arts, including grammar, research, and writing skills.

After graduation from college, I entered the Peace Corps and moved to the country of the Federated States of Micronesia. I have lived in that area of the world for most of my teaching career. My original interest was teaching instrumental music. Although I changed majors and ultimately graduated with a BS in Computer Science, I have continued my interest in teaching, first by volunteer tutoring during college and later by helping adults learn to speak English. I eventually took an intensive summer course in teaching English to speakers of other languages, following which I spent over three years teaching conversational English in Central Asia. Upon returning to the States I worked for a few years for a literacy council, helping administratively and also teaching workplace English. I continue to play in orchestras and teach string instruments privately. I am in the process of completing a Master's degree in Teaching. I love working with children and with adults. I have always been very enthusiastic about learning and always find myself helping others to discover a deeper understanding of a subject. During my time tutoring math, I discovered that there is a necessary balance to allow the student time to process the material without allowing them to get frustrated and giving up.
