I have a degree in English and Creative Writing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and have two years experience writing for the Daily Tar Heel. I have also completed internships with the local NPR station, WUNC, and with the organization AGRADU (Advocates for Grassroots Development in Uganda). I learn best by teaching, and there is nothing I like so well as working with people to help them achieve their goals. Writing is, more than anything, a discipline, and I am a source of accountability, encouragement, and instruction as well as a sounding board for my student's ideas. Constructive criticism is essential to build students up, and I avoid all personal or harsh criticism, as well as praise not based in specifics.

Teacher with gentle touch - Very good at explaining new subj

I try to find the teaching style that is going to work for the student. Are they visual? Do they need to touch to learn? Finding out how to teach them and then helping them learn skills for independent study are just as important as the material.

My comments on tutoring Composition : Lower Elementary Teacher for 15 years. I like to look for the special ways to meet the way a student learns. I believe each child learns differently.

I believe each child has her/his own way in which to learn. It is a process of discovery but my experience and intuition are pretty darn good. I like to combine humor with organization and accountability, on my part, the student's part and as well as the parents'.
I am a previous elementary school teacher, focusing mainly in the lower grades during my 15 years of teaching. Prior to that I was trained and taught Montessori Elementary, Grades 1-3. I believe and was able to teach with a thematic approach in which all subjects were integrated. During my doctoral studies at UCSD, I began to tutor professionally as a way to earn extra income. It seemed like a logical choice for a part-time job as I had been helping friends with homework for almost as long as I could remember.
