Unlimited potential with help and skills to succeed.

Dr. Griffith Garland studied engineering physics as an undergraduate at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, pioneering the program by being a member of the first class to graduate with that degree. She was twice a member of Who's Who Among American College and University Students and graduated summa cum laude. She put herself through college by tutoring students, working as a teaching assistant, and becoming the training manager at the University's computer lab. She went on to study geochemistry at Washington University in St. Louis, where she researched hydrothermal systems on Mars and their implications for life. While earning her Ph.D. at Washington University, she realized that some professors had difficulty conveying material to their students. She decided to be different and completed a Master's of Arts in Teaching, specializing in mathematics and sciences. After graduate sch ... read more

Experienced instructor with 99 ASVAB

I am an instructor at Virginia College and VC recently cancelled its ASVAB tutoring program. I have had many successful students go through the program, but due to funding constraints the college can no longer support the initiative. Nevertheless, I am going to continue tutoring and hope to see many students pass all of their exams! J.D. Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, 2010 B.S. Mathematics and Criminal Justice, University of South Carolina, 2007
I will begin by walking you through how to solve the problems. After a few sessions of that, we will then move on to simple exams taken by the student to gauge your knowledge. Finally, we will end with a practice exam to ensure that you are at the appropriate level.

A Little Bit About Me...

For 1:1 tutoring my teaching style will vary depending on the individual's needs and the topic covered. I try to work at the student’s learning pace in an effort to allow the student time to comprehend and retain what is covered within the session. I am not interested in helping others learn what I know (and love) to find out later that I was "too fast" for them to use the information after the session. Covering any topic outside their natural pace is a complete waste of everyone's time.
I graduated with a 4-year degree in Mech. Eng. in 1997. I was very successful for the next 12 years, in various positions. In 2009, I changed to the IT field. As an engineer and thereafter, I mentored many friends, colleagues, and friends of friends with computers. I am familiar with MS Windows, but I plan to learn about MAC PCs soon. I know I can help any user find a better way to operate ... read more

I am a recent graduate of Alabama State University, where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. Graduating magna cum laude at the top of my class with a 3.65/4.0 grade point average, I was always sought after for help in those tough curriculum classes like physics, chemistry, genetics and molecular biology. In the spring of 2006 I began formally tutoring general and organic chemistry to college juniors and seniors for the physical science/chemistry professor at my university. In the summer of 2006 I picked up another work study job tutoring college juniors and seniors in Physics. I continued both of these jobs until my graduation in May of 2007. I believe I have a great teaching style which enables me to relate concepts in a way that any new student to chemistry can understand. I love using visual aids to help get new ideas across, since I myself is a visual learner. I also like to get the student involved so that I know they are grasping the concepts and not just the answers.
Throughout my undergraduate experience, I worked with many of my fellow students to help them better understand chemistry concepts. I have gained experience in all of the major fields of chemistry including organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry and physical chemistry. I have even completed inorganic/physical chemistry research which I presented to other scientists. I currently work as a chemist, which keeps my skills sharp.

A Little Bit About Me...

I really love helping students understand the material. One rule that I do have is that students should at least try and not be lazy about the matter. I remember seeing one quote way back when I first started mathematics, "Mathematics is not a spectator sport." Now this may sound cheesy but this is the truth in order to get through a math class you must work hard at it and practice, practice, and practice some more and if truely don't get something I will be more than glad to help.
I have an earned M.S. and B.S. in Applied Mathematics which have given me the needed skills to work with students. I also have worked in a Math tutoring lab for about a year. In addition, I have taught a summer algebra class as well as graded statistics papers for professors.
