My comments on tutoring Organic Chemistry : Organic Chemistry can be a terrible subject. But, when approached in the right way understanding it can be very straight forward. I typically employ the Socratic method: asking questions to discover what the student knows (or thinks he knows) and guiding his thinking toward discovering the knowledge himself. Both my three children and my Scouts have declared that they enjoy my teaching because it engages their interest and because it is frequently humorous (when the subject and the occasions permits). I really enjoy the company and conversation of young adults and find I often learn from them as they are learning from me. These smaller questions are the building blocks of knowledge a student will acquire in classes and it is the ability to put them all together in a coherent manner that allows them to solve the problems at hand. I am a firm believer in asking leading questions of students that may not directly pertain to the question being asked on an assignment, but will get them thinking in the correct manner such that the real question will be easy.
