I earned a Bachelors degree in English from Western Michigan University in 19997. I taught at the middle school and high school levels. My experience in the classroom has prepared me for other tasks such as tutoring outside the classroom. During my years of teaching I did provide tutoring services for students through the Urban League Organization.
For as long as I can remember, I have loved working with children. I believe that every child is capable of learning when given the necessary tools and encouragement needed. I left the classroom in 2006; however, I do not want to completely give up teaching and for this reason, I think that tutoring is a great match for me.

I have a simple teaching style. I teach according to the students needs. I try to get a sense of how the student learns best and let them direct me to what they need. I teach the student to teach themselves. I have had great sucess with my approach in the past, as this is a very self-rewarding experience for the student. I have often found that students soon catch-on and then begin to excell on their own. I have used these techniques to tutor algebra, geometry, algebra II and psychology, political science, anatomy and physiology. I love to see that look in a students' eyes when they "get it!"
I have obtained a bachelor degree in biopsychology from GVSU, which required me to learn many levels of science and math as well as anatomy and physiology. I have a deep understanding and appreciation for this field of study and have produced many reports and essays in the aforementi ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I currently work and teach at the International School of Tegucigalpa. I am a high school world history, psychology and comparative government. I have also taught economics at the high school level. I have tutored students in Language Arts at the high school and middle school letters. I am also literate in Spanish.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that the teacher's most important job is to present material in a way that makes learning fun and interesting. Everyone learns best in different ways, and it is important to remember this when tutoring or teaching. Whereas some learn best with visualizations, others learn by listening. I love finding new and creative ways to present a lesson or concept. I have a passion for teaching and hope to be an educator for the rest of my life.
I have always loved teaching and working with kids. I have volunteered at a number of places that allowed me to exercise my ability to tutor and mentor children ages 5-17. Since high school, I have volunteered at a local preschool. This past summer, I spent time in Honduras teaching English at an orphanage. I have a very concrete understanding of English and Spanish grammar, and I have spent the last four years studying writing at Grand Valle ... read more

I believe everyone has the tools to succeed. The ability to recognize strengths and weaknesses, and to adjust accordingly, is what it takes to succeed. Everyone is an individual, and as such, everyone has unique learning techniques. I believe encouraging the natural curiosity the student is the best way to foster a learning environment. By encouraging curiosity an instructor can turn learning from a chore to do, into a lifelong activity enjoyed by the student. As a person who takes personal pride in their work, I would strive to provide the highest quality assistance to your student. I would be diligent in providing the best information and tools to enable your student to succeed.
Throughout my academic career, I have excelled in many subject areas. As a result of my academic success I graduated with a bachelor of science degree from Grand Valley State University in Natural Re ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I prefer to approach learning in a well-rounded approach. I feel that when others have a basic understanding of material, they are better able to ask relevant questions that are more specific. During school, peer-review was an area I excelled at. I am supportive in others' efforts, and guide them in the right direction, while paying attention to their strengths.
Throughout my college career, I learned many reading, writing, and critical thinking skills. Academically, I am most familiar with the structure and requirements of written assignments. My work gave me over 5 years experience in the customer service field, where I trained over ten other associates.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style has been shaped by Bloom’s taxonomy for the cognitive domains and, more recently, by the experimental learning model of Kolb. Both of these models stress the importance of leading students through learning sequences that foster a more complete learning than can be achieved from a single perspective. For example, rather than relying on lecture as the sole means to learning Kolb’s model suggests guiding students through four learning cycles: Concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualization, and active experimentation. My experience as a student has helped shape the style of teaching I have developed. I have had the pleasure of being taught by several teachers who have helped me understand the type of teacher I aspire to become. I have had a few select teachers who have demonstrated various techniques that I believed were effective and ... read more
