I love helping children learn.

I have helped my cousins, which are 9 and 11, in school for years with reading and writing. I am also able to help in environmental science and economics. In high school I completed both with an A-. I have also taken A computer class and a business class at Muskegon Community College and excelled at both. I am able to help a student learn to type more effectively. I am also able to tailor my teaching style around the student.
I meet the student and work around their specific needs. If they are more energetic then I find things that will not only help them learn but will also allow them to use some of their excess energy. However if the student is more laid back I find more calm and relaxing ways to help them understand. I have a rewards system that allows the student to earn tickets that they can later use to get things that they can use.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a simple teaching style. I teach according to the students needs. I try to get a sense of how the student learns best and let them direct me to what they need. I teach the student to teach themselves. I have had great sucess with my approach in the past, as this is a very self-rewarding experience for the student. I have often found that students soon catch-on and then begin to excell on their own. I have used these techniques to tutor algebra, geometry, algebra II and psychology, political science, anatomy and physiology. I love to see that look in a students' eyes when they "get it!"

I have always loved teaching and working with kids. I have volunteered at a number of places that allowed me to exercise my ability to tutor and mentor children ages 5-17. Since high school, I have volunteered at a local preschool. This past summer, I spent time in Honduras teaching English at an orphanage. I have a very concrete understanding of English and Spanish grammar, and I have spent the last four years studying writing at Grand Valley State University.
I believe that the teacher's most important job is to present material in a way that makes learning fun and interesting.
