Because of my experience in teaching my own children, I have discovered that no child is too young to learn. Often people will not consider an infant or toddler a "functioning human being" until the child can speak. This is so inaccurate! I taught one of my daughters to read at age four. I believe that learning through hands-on experience is the best way to fully comprehend material. I want to interest students in academics.
