My name is Maria Sedrak. I am a Material Sciences Engineer. I spent my college years teaching Piano to kids starting from 4 years old to married couples. I also were a Junior TA in the Physics Department back in my University for two consecutive semesters. I also freelanced at giving Mathematics classes to middle school students. I also performed in front of a large crowd multiple times making me able to interact greatly with people.
I like to simplify whatever problem the student is facing in order for him/her to be able to independently solve it. I always like to remind them that nothing is hard, it is just how they are looking at the problem and organize their thoughts. I feel that understanding the 'why' leads people to more easily grasp larger concepts and makes mistakes easier to recognize. After that practice is absolutely necessary: repetition IS the mother of learning. For children all this has to be presented in an accessible way. I try to contextualize problems in math and science in order to make them easier for children to grasp. Youtube has made potentially dangerous science projects unnecessary in order to illustrate certain concepts, while additional resources, such as the Khan Academy, make math problems easier to review.
