A Little Bit About Me...

I tutored elementary students while in high school. These students were the ones with slight learning disablities. I tutored in college both in chemistry and biology but mainly chemistry. I have been in the workforce for many years and feel that my knowledge would be helpful to others. I have also tutored in math, mostly algebra.
I don't have a set style. I try to evaluate how the student learns and build from there.

A Little Bit About Me...

The goal of my approach is to enable students to have a level of ownership in learning concepts and ideas. Merely teaching the idea is not enough, and that "Oh, I see" moment must occur to embed the idea for long-term growth. I enjoy relating the ideas and facts to real world examples that almost anyone can grasp.
For a period of five years, I offered tutoring services to students at the University of Chapel Hill, Duke University, and North Carolina State University. My ability comes from experience...I was not entirely prepared for college when I started, and had to work much harder to successfully complete my degrees. I believe that this has given me a great insight into what students really need, especially as schools continue to do a less than perfect job of preparing students for the future.

I obtained a high honors degree (Magna Cum Laude) in Biology, with a minor in Chemistry in 2005. Due to an outstanding GPA (3.74/4.00), I began to teach even as an undergraduate student. I was hired by the Athletics Department to help my fellow students obtain higher GPAs even with their busy athletic schedules. Upon graduation, I continued to volunteer my services and also got hired as a private tutor from 2005-2009. Subjects I tutored included Math, Science, Biology, and Chemistry. I am currently a graduating senior at Wilberforce University. When that day comes, I will have a BS in Biology. This degree has allowed me to gain hands on experience within different fields of study along with enhancing my kowledge of the biological sciences and all that it embodies. Also with Spanish, I have not had the experience of teaching but I have been learning the Spanish language for the last ten years (since the sixth grade). I can read as well as write the language and hold a descent conversation. I have previously worked as a tutor/mentor in this field of study for high school graduates. This particular job was to help fulfill a semester worth of requirements in 8 weeks.
