My comments on tutoring Social Studies : Currently an anthropology student with a strong background in the social sciences.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a high school special education teacher with a primary focus on ELA. Currently, I co-teach in integrated classrooms, grades 9, 11, and 12, with regular education teachers and we have designed a curriculum focusing on intensive writing to assist our students in passing the NYS ELA Regents. We have a 91% passing success rate for both regular education and special needs students. My strategies with special needs students is designed around their disability and I work with them on “coping” mechanisms to level the playing field to allow them to be successful on exams and in life. While studying at SUNY ESF I held a position as a teaching assistant for Western Civilization. This involved grading exams and papers, preparing and giving lectures, and holding office hours to assist students with any questions or concerns they may have had. I also spent time volunteering to teach and after school science club through ESF Outreach for elementary / middle school aged children.
I feel as though every student will have their own niche. They will have a special subject that they enjoy the most and one that they despise. I think that figuring out how the child studies for the subject they enjoy will lead to an understanding of how to motivate that student to learn the subjects that are more difficult for them.
