I currently work in a PreK-12 School setting as a Certified School Library Media Specialist. I am responsible for teaching Prek-6th grade library/research lessons. I graduated from Finger Lakes Community College with an AA in Elementary Education. I passed the NYS Teacher's Assistant Skills Test in 2006. I worked at BOCES as a tutor. I tutored high school, middle school and elementary school students. I also worked in the BOCES classrooms as a teacher's aide. I worked at BOCES for 3 years. My teaching style is one on one with students making continuous progress at their own paces. I love to work with elementary students aged ten and under. Working with non-tradionat students was fun and challenging. I had to relate to them differently (of course) from the younger kids.
I taught Office Technology to adults for ten years. I have been subbing K-6 for the past two years in local school districts. While studying at SUNY ESF I held a position as a teaching assistant for Western Civilization. This involved grading exams and papers, preparing and giving lectures, and holding office hours to assist students with any questions or concerns they may have had. I also spent time volunteering to teach and after school science club through ESF Outreach for elementary / middle school aged children.
I feel as though every student will have their own niche. They will have a special subject that they enjoy the most and one that they despise. I think that figuring out how the child studies for the subject they enjoy will lead to an understanding of how to motivate that student to learn the subjects that are more difficult for them.
