As an experienced K-12 substitute teacher, my work extended from the inner city to the county schools. I had the opportunity to instruct students with various ability levels and learning styles. During the 2008-2009 school term I served as an AmeriCorps VISTA in a middle school working as tutor, special projects assistant, and mentor. I hold a BS degree in Sociology and expect to earn a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction in 2010. Graduate school taught me to converse on every level; to write research papers, essays, and content specific lesson plans that conform to IL Learning Standards. I don't believe in giving a student the answers to their questions. Rather, I think it is important to help them find the answers themselves--understanding the process will enable them to perform on their own. For example, rather than editing a student's paper, I will go through it line by line and have them help me find the errors.
I have a very strong background in writing. My experience includes my graduate research and thesis, news writing for a tv station, in addition to 6 years of writing for academia. I spent a semester in Pau, France and can tutor beginning to intermediate level students. I graduated with a 3.9 GPA in high school, college and graduate school.
