I worked as a teacher's assistant for several years in public schools in Illinois, assisting in K-5 classrooms. I worked at Sylvan Learning Center for 2 years, teaching beginning reading and elementary reading. As I gained experience, I began tutoring students in the school district where I worked. After several years, I became a fifth grade teacher in a private school where I taught for 5 years. I am a licensed Special Educator. I have been teaching students ages 3 to 21 in the public school system for 14 years. I am both an Early Childhood Specialist in General Education and a Special Educator for all grades. I am able to identify and remediate learning problems. I have a wealth of interventions and adaptations to assist in creating and executing a personalized learning program for your student.
My main goal is for the student to achieve understanding to ensure long term learning and positive changes. My teaching style is to put the student's preferred learning style(s) together with the learning goal to create a good attitude toward learning. I earned my degrees in education from Ball State University. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education with a Kindergarten Endorsement, M.A.E. degree, and a Master of Arts degree in Special Education with minors in the following: Learning Disabilities, Mildly Mentally Handicapped, Seriously Emotionally Handicapped. I have taught at the elementary level in both general education classes and special education classes and at the high school level in special education classes.
I enjoy teaching and find it very rewarding. I believe that all children can learn and it is the teacher's role to find the learning style of his or her students and to plan lessons and activities to meet their needs. My teaching style approaches the learner with patience and creativity. As an art and writing student, I realize that many kids learn differently, and I try to approach each situation as a unique situation. As a writing consultant what I loved hearing about was when students became more confident and improved to the point of independence. A Little Bit About Me...

I have had a variety of teaching experiences since graduating from a small teacher’s college with strict requirements. I have taught geography, physical education, piano, keyboarding, and coached high school sports. Hard work and dedication led to success in my coaching career with a runner-up state title in girls’ basketball. I mention this because it shows I have a good rapport with students as I am able to motivate and set goals successfully. I also have taught all subjects in a one-room suburban school, grades 1-8.
