I love to learn, which is why I love teaching children. Every child learns differently, because of this, teaching is a learning process as well! I believe that students learn best through hands on activities that allow them to internalize the concepts they are struggling with. Whether it is using math manipulatives to understand multiplication and division or using letter tiles to understand consonant blends in reading, hands on activities are the best way to learn.
As an education major at Berea College, I volunteered my services as a tutor three nights a week in addition to my student teaching and education courses. I was also a Pre-Kindergarten teacher during the summer terms while I was in college. I am certified to teach all subjects grades K-5. I have my masters degree in Reading and Literacy Instruction. I currently teach Pre-Kindegarten in Lexington.

My teaching style involves what the student wants to achieve out of my teachings. For example i ask the students during their first lesson, "What musical groups and styles inspire you?" This way I can get a feel for what they are looking for. I also do from beginner to advanced theory techniques with notation, playing with a metronome, flash cards, etc. Teaching is a HUGE part of my life and i couldn't be easier to get along with. Love working with all ages, especially the little ones considering i love to be a role model to them. Since graduating from college, I have pursued further education through supplemental education. While working, I have attended classes in the evenings to keep current with teaching trends, practical classroom skills and the social-emotional needs of children in learning. A Little Bit About Me...

I feel each child is unique, so their learning style is unique. I especially enjoy using the explorative method of teaching where the child is encourage to explore, examine, and discover with my assistance. I believe that each child has a gift and it is my job to discover where their strengths lie and to foster that strength and know where their weaknesses are and kindle their desire to make those stronger.
