A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked at summer camps for children ages 8-16 throughout my entire life, and love making a difference in a child's life. I am very patient and have a positive attitude. I believe that students learn in different ways, and it is our job as educators to help enrich them for the future. When given the proper instructions and guidance I firmly believe that any child can succeed if just one person believes in them. I am currently teaching mostly guitar and bass. I encourage the students, sometimes acting as their cheerleader as I take each student through a custom talored series of learning about their instrument as well as learning songs that are appropriate for their level and interest.
I have been teaching music - guitar, piano, bass and music theory all of my life, but most recently contiguously for the last seven years. I have a BA in Sociology from Clemson University. I was always good in math, science and history in addition to social sciences and music.

A Little Bit About Me...

I was home-schooled until the sixth grade with my three brothers. I completed junior high at a private school and then graduated Salutatorian from a public high school. My parents operated a small day care that I worked in with school age children completing homework assignments. I have also worked in a Day Care as a caregiver for small children. Volunteering at a Family Literacy program and doing Student Practicums for three years followed by a semester of Student Teaching have all prepared me to teach children from all backgrounds with different educational and emotional needs.

Although I have been self employed for the last 6 years, I went back to school last year to add Science and Math for middle school to my certification. I passed the Praxis for both of those subjects spring of 2010. I was not able to get a full time teaching position this year. I went back to working for myself but would love to tutor. I have tutored for 3 years while I worked for Tryon Elementary school. I had great success with the students I worked with, in particular concerning math. I am very qualified to work in a tutoring capacity.
I believe in good classroom management and organized lesson plans. I set appropriate boundaries and expect the students to follow the rules that are set before them.
