A Little Bit About Me...

I liken tutoring sessions to the repair of a crumbling pyramid. I believe that every student is capable of learning and understanding the material that is presented to them in class, but that due to some reason, he or she does not understand some of the basic concepts that later material adds onto. Hence, the base of their pyramid is unstable. Usually in the first tutoring session, I try to gauge where the student is supposed to be in the material while at the same time trying to figure out where the missing foundation stones are. Once key concepts are explained, I then give students some examples to bolster their confidence and to be sure that they have learned the material.

I enjoy working with children. I think it is a pleasure to teach children how to become positive role models, and great leaders. In today's society many children learn in different ways. For example some like to listen, and some like to take notes. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe ever child has his or her own level of learning. That level can be intrapersonal, interpersonal, visual,etc. Every child must be worked with and not looked over. Not every child learns at the same pace. I am a believer in giving every child a chance. We as educators must find out what level of learning the child is on in order to assist the child's learning needs. If we fail to assess those needs, we have failed the child.
Although I graduated with a BS in Justices and an AA in Criminal Justice, I found myself feeling better working with youth rather than adults. I found myself substituting for elementary schools in Bulloch County and I have loved working in the classroom ever since.
